The Cape Cod branch of the Bulgarian Saturday School in Boston and Cape Cod opened the doors for the new 2024-2025 school year on September 7th. The teachers and administrators warmly welcomed the joyful students, their families, friends of the school and young volunteers into the spacious classrooms.
The school in Cape Cod was created and inaugurated 10 years ago by dedicated parents who are passionate about preserving Bulgarian language and culture. Since 2016, the school has found a home in the beautiful and welcoming building of Christ The King Parish Church at 5 Jobs Fishing Rd, Mashpee, MA 02649. This year's classes are divided into four age groups and classes will be held every Saturday from 10AM until 1PM. In addition to the school material, the heritage program includes thematic cultural workshops, in which the children will learn about Bulgarian customs and prepare for three major concerts: Christmas Day, the Bulgarian Independence Day on March 3, and the Day of the Cyrillic Alphabet on May 24.
The main driving force behind the cultural events in the school are the enthusiastic parents from the Parents Organization of the school. Together with the teachers they help the organization of the workshops and greatly contribute to enriching the learning experience. We are incredibly thankful to all the volunteers who support our mission of providing the children in our community with cultural diversity and the opportunity to learn and practice the Bulgarian language, which significantly broadens their global outlook.
Immediately after the first bell, the students entered the classrooms and began their work with the teachers. We are happy that this year, in addition to a teacher, young assistants will also be present in the classrooms. These are students who have already graduated from our school but remain integrated in the classrooms, gaining valuable volunteer and leadership experience.
While the students got busy in the classrooms, the parents and the management of the school participated in an informative meeting. During the meeting, the president of the school, Mr. Rosen Dimitrov, presented the history and structure of the educational organization and Ms. Zdravka Nikolova shared an emotional presentation with videos and photos from the last 10 years. Our graduates and their parents fondly recognized themselves and their friends in the pictures and recalled the warm feelings and excitement of school concerts and celebrations. This charged everyone with cheer and enthusiasm that will certainly accompany us throughout the school year.
In connection with the 10th anniversary, the school is organizing a formal lunch on September 28 at the Cape Cod Cultural Center in the town of South Yarmouth. We invite all friends and long-standing supporters of the school to join us in celebrating our first decade of academic excellence, development and community spirit.
