The Saturdays at the Bulgarian school are always exciting! Thanks to the Parents' Organization, we have a busy calendar full of events that aim to make Saturday classes more diverse and appealing to both young and old. Our calendar includes a mix of Bulgarian and local holidays, with the goal of engaging Bulgarian children and mixed families from Boston and Cape Cod.
On the Saturday before Halloween, teachers and parents organized a parade featuring fabulous, strange, scary, and cheerful characters. Parents took charge of organizing a lively party in the schoolyard, while inside the classrooms, students worked diligently in colorful costumes under the guidance of teachers. It's not every day you get to learn about narrow and broad vowel sounds from a teacher who seems to have stepped out of the magical world of Harry Potter. And how fun is it to have a colorful butterfly explaining the place of the predicate in the Bulgarian sentence?!
Right after their lessons ended, the youngest students at the Boston branch joined in the fun in the yard. During class, they discussed costumes, characters, the holiday excitement, and even carved a "scary" Halloween pumpkin! "Some children eagerly dove in with their hands, while others were a bit more hesitant after their first attempt," their teacher Zlati Shishkova shares about the learning experience.
This year, the parade and treats were organized at a professional level! From the decorations of the yard to the music, the healthier snacks, and the small gifts - parents had thought of every detail. Children shared stories about their costumes, took pictures with friends, danced, and genuinely had a great time.
"What a wonderful event! A big thank you to the organizers who delighted the children with colorful decorations and music!" wrote Darina Tsonevka, a longtime teacher in the preschool groups.
"Halloween or All Saints' Day is one of the favorite holidays for many children in the United States, and it's becoming increasingly popular in other countries around the world. We also celebrated it in Cape Cod. The children showed up in fantastic costumes and with big smiles," wrote Teodora Torres, a teacher at the Cape Cod branch.
"Great costumes, everyone! In class, we did a project with a pumpkin and another one with a spider. The children were thrilled!" shared Stanislava Ivanova about the youngest students in Cape Cod.
